The Imran Conundrum - Insaf Blog By Sheheryar Iqbal

PML-N`s current public campaign is a tantamount to their admission of surrender. The trumpet of surrender is being blown by the ousted PM himself, he has been constantly trying to sell the notion of foul play being involved in his adjudication. The same chords are then resonated by the king’s battalion to prove their allegiance to the king, not the country. The kings infantry in it`s doctrine of retreat has locked horns with all institutions of the state, trying to sabotage the whole system. A collapse of the system with an intervention of the “establishment” is the only surrender document which will win this battle for PML-N.

Bringing down this political juggernaut who has been an epitome of corruption since his inception in politics has not at all come without a gargantuan struggle. Imran`s struggle against corruption started in 1996 which he and his followers believe is the root cause to Pakistans current crisis. Sticking true to his belief after an arduous struggle of 22 years Imran has finally proved Nawaz Sharif’s involvement in corruption and has put him to his final destination. During this process Imran Khan gathered a huge amount of public support which agrees with his claim of corruption being Pakistan`s root cause of all ills.

What is astonishing is that the monumental effort which Imran Khan and his followers have put in is being completely wiped out. Asghar Khan Case, Hudabiya Paper mill scam , the Model Town massacre and even Justice Abdul Qayyum are testaments to how the Sharif’s have always used the system to their benefit. Today when the “Sharif`s” have been unable to strike a deal with the establishment due to Imran Khans presence, a segment of the society has started calling Imran`s relentless efforts as a scripted effort enacted by the judicial forces, the establishment and some unknown hands flying in from outer space. Whereas, Shahbaz who very recently was seen pleading on national television to secure a “deal” for the Sharif families crimes is all of a sudden being projected as the torchbearer of democracy.

My question is that why is Nawaz Sharif`s method of conviction a bigger issue than the drama the Sharif family has been orchestrating for over decades. The Sharif family hiding behind echelons of power has been manipulating the countries system to their own benefit. The state stood paralyzed courtesy the bureaucracy and all state institutions such as NAB, FIA, FBR, IB etc whenever it came to the accountability of the Sharif family. Had these institutions been in motion and not acted as safeguards of the Sharif family we might not have been standing at this point discussing the judgement through courts. Coming to the judgement, why has Nawaz not been able to prove his innocence? Did Imran fabricate the fake trust deed? Did PTI force ICIJ to include the Sharif family`s name in the Panama leaks? Was Imran behind the manufacturing of Nescol and Neilson or was it Imran who asked Nawaz to buy apartments at park lane? The previous government as a representation of the state should have questioned Nawaz, their antics to project Nawaz as a pillar of the state is what has led to a whole collision of the system.

Now, to support or not to support Imran that is the question. Imran Khan from being labelled as Taliban Khan by voices of the left to being labelled as a usurper trying to drive away public from their religious views by the right winged parties is the Imran conundrum. This is what leaves everyone confused, it is his nationalist ideology which is completely misunderstood. Many may rightly disagree with his approach on issues of terrorism and foreign policy but this is what separates him from the rest, he has a solution to say the least and he is clear about his stance. Imran has stayed true to his people and has out rightly spoken over issues such as the war on terror. This has been vindicated through PTI`s good will gesture where PTI is supporting a PTM candidate Ali Wazir in FATA since Imran believes that they also are “our people” affected by a war which was not ours. Today even the PPP stands at guard with Imran Khans decade old stance that we bombed our own people. Imran Khan was the only Pakistani politician who opposed U.S drone attacks when they started. He stood up for his people by blocking NATO supplies passing through KPK in order to register a protest against drone attacks, marking them as a clear attack on the sovereignty of the people of Pakistan. This is how he can address the great sense of isolation in smaller provinces such as Balochistan, FATA and South Punjab. A national party under Imran`s vision of leading Pakistan through smaller administrative units is the solution to avert this upcoming crisis to which PPP and PML-N have failed a number of times.

Today’s political arena is a volatile one, polarization in the society has created a huge divide that the sentiments of both the right and left are standing at an extreme. We need to have dialogue on a single table rather than climbing on our self-erected mountains of righteousness and supremacy. The solution lies with a party having a centrist approach driven by ideology, a party which can take a cut through stance amidst the pressures of appeasement to establishment and foreign powers. All tried and tested political powers have till date failed to answer the issues this country has faced. We might not find rationality in Imrans method of madness, we may not find sense in his sinusoidal wave strategy but then it is his labyrinth trap where he dictates everyone on his terms and will not succumb under pressure.

Imran Khan banking upon his public support is fighting against MMA and ANP in KPK, the PML-N in Punjab, MQM and PPP in Sindh and against different parties in Balochistan. Imran has already butchered the PPP due to their politics of reconciliation with PML-N, he looks certain to win majority in KPK “again” and now he is now storming towards conquering battle ground Punjab from the PML-N courtesy his personal vote bank plus his political surrender to the reality of electables in Pakistan. These might be the reasons to him winning the premiership but terming him as the blue eyed boy being solely “brought” by the establishment would be ignoring a long struggle which is finally culminating into success.

XML Sitemap for Blogger

Sometime last year, we had informed you folks about Google rolling out XML sitemaps for Blogger blogs. Though we couldn’t find any official announcement from Google/Blogger, it looks like this feature is now available on all Blogger blogs including those which use a custom domain name like this one.

Sitemap is an XML document which lists out all the URLs of your site in an XML format so that search engines can easily identify and crawl pages on your website. The location of the sitemap is usually specified in the site’s robots.txt file(which will be read by the Search Engine Crawlers).

If you look at the robots.txt file of any Blogger Blog, you will find that it specifies a new sitemap URL

.As you can see in the above screenshot, this blog’s sitemap is located at

http://www.bloggerplugins.org/sitemap.xml

If you take a look at this URL, you can see that it lists out the URLs of all posts on BP along with their last modified timestamp. This information will help the crawlers in easily identifying any new entries on your blog.

Managing Sitemaps on Google WebMaster Tools

Google can easily find out your sitemap URL by reading your robots.txt file, but in case you want to explicitly specify the Sitemap URL and see the crawl/indexing statistics, you can update the new Sitemap URL in Webmaster tools. To add the new Blogger Sitemap, login at the below URL using your Google account.

https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

If your blog was already added to webmaster tools, then it will be listed on Webmaster tools, if not add it using the “ADD A SITE” button. Once your blog is listed on WebMaster tools, click on the site name so that it takes you to the Site Dashboard

Now navigate to Crawl > Sitemaps on the left side menu. Now click on the “ADD/TEST SITEMAP” button, give sitemap.xml in the text box and click “Submit Sitemap”

Once it’s submitted, you can see the results on the same page. If you had previously added blogger’s RSS/ATOM feed as the sitemap using old methods, you can delete them(or you can keep them, it doesn’t make a difference).

Blogger Sitemap – FAQ
Question #1 – Is this feature available for custom domain blogs or blogspot blogs or both?

The Blogger XML sitemap is available on all blogger blogs including custom domain blogs or normal blogspot blogs. you just need to append /sitemap.xml to your blog’s home page URL to see the sitemap.

Question #2 – Can I add this blogger XML sitemap to Google Webmaster tools?

Yes you can add it to webmaster tools as described in the tutorial

Question #3 – Should I add blogger’s ATOM/RSS feed as blogger sitemap?

No you no longer need to do that. Blogger RSS/ATOM feeds will have a maximum of 500 posts. If you use the ATOM/RSS feed method, you will have to add new feeds everytime you make another 500 posts on your blog. Instead you can just add sitemap.xml as the only sitemap for your blog. Blogger will automatically add new posts to this sitemap and convert itself into a sitemap map in case there are more posts. So you can just add sitemap.xml and let Google/Blogger do the rest.

Question #4  - Should I then remove the old RSS/ATOM sitemaps from Webmaster tools?

Yes you can remove the old feed based sitemaps, but it’s not mandatory.

Setting up Blogger Custom Domain on Name.Com

Google’s domain registration service Google Domains is now available to everyone in the US.Google domains integrates nicely with many Website-publishing platforms like Wix,Shopify,Sqaurespace and Weebly. Google’s own platform (Blogger) wasn’t supported initially, but Google has now rolled out support for Blogger. This would mean that publishing your Blogger blog to a custom domain will be a lot more easier.

Google Domains is now in public Beta and is available only to users in the United States. The rest of the world might have to wait a little longer to utilise this service. If you are eligible to use the new Google Domains integration, you should see a “Buy Now” option in Blogger’s publishing settings.

When you login to the Blogger Dashboard, and navigate to the Settings menu, you should see the option under the Publishing section

Once you click on the Buy a domain option, you should be able to quickly set your BlogSpot blog to use a custom domain name which you buy. Custom domain names on Google Domains costs somewhere near 12$ per year.

In case you haven’t yet created your blog, you can log onto Google Domains, buy a domain name and use blogger as the publishing platform.

In case you need help setting up your blog with a Custom domain from Google Domains, do let us know and we might do it for you :-). Google Domains is not yet available anywhere outside the United States. This doesn't mean that you can't use Custom Domains outside the US. There are many third party Domain Registrars where you can register a domain name of your choice. We have written couple of tutorials on how to set it up for Name.com and Go Daddy. Both are trusted and widely used domain registrars. Most of my domains were registered on Name.com and a couple of them on GoDaddy.  In case you need some details on how to setup your custom URL with these domain providers, then checkout our tutorials listed below. If you would like to use an alternate domain provider and would want us to write a tutorial, do let us know and we might be able to help you out.

Turn on https for a blogger/blogspot blog

Google allows your blogs to be served over an encrypted connection. This feature was rolled out long back for blogspot blogs. In order to make use of this feature, you have to do almost nothing, but this post will provide some more details around the same including setting up of http to https redirects.

If you are using a blogspot blog(i.e not a custom domain, then your blog will already be having an https address.

This setting is turned on by default for all of the blogspot blogs(ie. non custom domain blogs). You actually cannot override this setting, which means that Google makes sure that all of your blogspot.com blogs have an https address.

By default, the blogspot blog will also be available at it's http address. You can make sure that your http blog address redirects to your corresponding https address by tweaking the Blogger settings.

In order to enable http-to-https redirect, follow the below steps Login to your Blogger blog's dashboard
Click on Settings > Basic and select "Yes" from the drop down as shown the screenshot below

Best Writing Apps For Bloggers (Plan and Write Content Effectively)

If you are a blogger, chances are you have to churn out content on a regular basis.

That means having to sit in front of a word processing package – usually the WordPress editor or Microsoft Word for most – for more hours than most people would on the average.

What you might not know is that you can make your experience with creating content even better, only if you would invest in some writing apps that suit your needs.

That is why, today, we are talking about some of the best writing apps for bloggers, highlighting how these apps promise to make your content creation plan better.

What to Consider when Choosing Writing Software

Like it is with any serious decision, the choice of what writing software to go for requires a good deal of thought. Some of the things you will want to have thought about are:

1. The Usability
No one likes a complex software. Even though these softwares have been made with a light twist to them so that they suit specific needs of the writer, that is no excuse for them to be complex.

If it can’t be loaded and booted up to work right off the bat, you should probably look elsewhere.

2. Editing Features
Editing will always go hand in hand with writing. In fact, it can be said that editing is the most important part of writing.

It is the quality control section that helps you weed out unnecessary text, replace redundant texts with better ones, check grammar and spelling accuracy, improve on mechanical accuracy and so much more.

Everything you post goes on the web to a lot of readers.

Thus, a writing app of choice should be one that supports editing and in-depth analysis of your articles.

3. Specificity
I, for one, am a lover of diversity. That means I like it when one app can handle a lot of functions.

But, even at that, I would love to know that the app I’m using stands out for at least, one thing. That way, I know why I am going for it over others – because of that special offering.

Different bloggers have different needs. Some writing apps are better suited to screenwriters than they are for novelists.

In line with this article, what you should be looking for are those which are suitable for bloggers.

4. Integrations
While not absolutely necessary, your writing tool coming with a slew of integrations makes your work easier on a whole new level.

You will find out that some of these apps have cloud support built into them. That ensures your content is always kept safe and easily accessible from any computer whenever you want to make edits/use the document.

Asides cloud-based support, some writing apps will even allow you to publish onto your website directly.

If nothing else, that saves you some extra time on loading up your website then copying and pasting the content.

5. Other Features
These are features specific to the user of the software’s needs.

There are a ton of bloggers out there with each one having a different way of passing their message across. Some might prefer using short quotes to generate their content while some others will swear by the rate at which thesauruses have helped them become better writers.

What I will advise for the different classes of bloggers is that they pick a content creator that would be able to offer them those features they need to make their writing process faster and even more efficient.

Of course, all that is dependent on the availability of such features that they need.

It is not advisable that you pick a software with many features that you won’t get to use. Know what you need, then go for it

6. Functionality
Functionality is the first thing you should think of when choosing a writing software. Alongside usability, that is.

It is not uncommon to find different writing apps out there with a barrage of features that are not in any way relevant to content writing. They are usually the ones with a nice interface and very little to nothing to offer in the end.

This software will most likely leave you frustrated in the end and with a bad taste in the mouth towards writing apps.

The best thing is to go for functional apps over those that make a lot of watery promises.

7. Distractions
Have you ever been on a roll and out of the blue, a distraction comes along to knock you out of that thought process? That has happened to me – more times than one – and I can tell you how frustrating it can be.

This goes on to underline the need for a writing software which offers you a distraction-free mode of writing.

What better way to ensure all your creative juices are flowing in the right direction without damming of any kind?
